Cultivate Art Collective Sea Art Blog Hop

Today the Cultivate Art Collective is doing a blog hop! This year at Surtex, May 18- 20, I’ll be exhibiting with nine other Collective members, and today’s blog hop is to showcase the diverse talent of our group. The theme of our first blog hop is “Sea,” and it has been interpreted, re-imagined, and beautifully designed by each artist to showcase her unique vision and creative talents.

My design below is a Surtex sneak peak that will be available for licensing at the show. It was inspired by my recent trip to the Aquarium of the Pacific, and chigiri-e, Japanese torn paper art. Chigiri-e is typically done with delicate, colored washi paper, but I chose to create a rougher shape for the sea creatures with bond paper, and for color and texture, I used an acrylic and gesso piece that I created in a workshop with Randall Hassan.
